How They Voted is published as a guide to show the extent of support that members of the Legislative Assembly give the North Dakota business community. It is published each legislative year in May. The tables in this publication outline each legislator's votes on key business issues and whether or not that vote aligned with the ND Chamber's position on the measure. Those votes which positively align with the ND Chamber's position receive a plus (+) in the tables. Votes opposed to the ND Chamber position are indicated with a minus (-). Those votes in which a legislator was absent (AB) are not included in the computation of a legislator's percentage. A ranking of 0-100% is possible for the total favorable votes of the members. In the event that more than one voting took place, we compile results based on the final vote. Only bills on which the ND Chamber had taken a clear position are included in How They Voted. This includes positions taken in the Chamber's Legislative Policy Statements and Guidelines distributed to legislators at the start of the legislature or in testimony to legislative committees. No determination is made of any particular legislator's vote prior to the final identification of the bills chosen for publication. The survey is a representation of those votes where the best interests of business required an individual commitment on the legislator's behalf.
