  • RECAP: Legislative Social

Thank you to those that attended our Legislative Social! The event, co-hosted by the GNDC, AGC of ND, and the Economic Development Association of North Dakota, created a forum for meaningful discussions between business leaders and policymakers both locally and nationally.

The event kicked off with a presentation, "Economic Success Fueled by North Dakota’s Business Climate" by Dr. John Bitzan, Menard Family Director and Professor of Management at the Sheila and Robert Challey Institute for Global Innovation and Growth. Dr. Bitzan highlighted North Dakota’s strong economic performance, including its #1 ranking in private-sector GDP growth and lowest unemployment rate over the past decade. His insights on economic freedom and policies that drive prosperity set the tone for productive conversations at the event.

Throughout the evening, members from each organization appreciated the opportunity to provide their perspectives to legislators and engage in discussions about the business climate, workforce or regulatory challenges, or infrastructure needs. Attendees seized the moment to connect directly with lawmakers, ensuring that the voice of North Dakota’s business community remains at the forefront of policy decisions.

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM DR. JOHN BITZAN'S PRESENTATION

    • North Dakota Leads in Economic Growth – ND ranks #1 in private-sector GDP growth over the past 20 years and has maintained the lowest unemployment rate in the last decade.
    • Business-Friendly Policies Drive Prosperity – ND ranks #10 in economic freedom and #9 in tax competitiveness, highlighting the state's commitment to fostering a strong business climate.
    • Workforce & Infrastructure Are Priorities – Continued efforts in investing and building, occupational licensing reform, workforce development, and childcare support are key to sustaining economic success.
    • Opportunities for Further Growth – Policymakers should focus on tax reform, reducing regulatory barriers, supporting innovation, and improving access to affordable childcare and housing to keep ND competitive.
We appreciate Dr. Bitzan presenting - the reminder of the wins and pitfalls is crucial as we look to the future. Additionally, GNDC is proud to partner with the hosting organizations, AGC of ND and EDND, who also prioritize economic growth and advocacy, ensuring businesses have a seat at the table to shape policies that drive prosperity for North Dakota.
