    POSITION TITLE:     DIRECTOR OF GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

     

    REPORTS TO:       PRESIDENT AND CEO

     

    GENERAL SCOPE OF DUTIES:

    The Greater North Dakota Chamber (GNDC) is the largest business association in the state and works to make North Dakota’s business climate the best in the nation. The Director of Government Affairs will play a vital role in GNDC’s success by leading a variety of legislative efforts and programs important to GNDC members. The Director of Government Affairs will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals to carry out the vision, mission, values of the GNDC.

     

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • PUBLIC POLICY

      • In cooperation with the President and CEO, coordinate the policy development process within GNDC, which maximizes member engagement

      • Monitor, research and analyze impacts of proposed state and federal legislation and regulations on GNDC membership

      • Professionally represent the GNDC at legislative and regulatory hearings

      • Work closely with trade association representatives and lobbyists to assure legislative and policy support, as needed, by GNDC

      • Coordinate membership participation in legislative and policy issues

      • Prepare legislative and policy analysis and reports

      • Coordinate communication of policy efforts to membership and marketing staff to help better promote the value of membership

      • Respond to media inquiries if needed

      • Work with the US Chamber, National Association of Manufacturers, and local chambers to be knowledgeable on various issues

      • Provide initiated measure campaign management as needed

     

    • PROGRAMS

      • Assist in managing PAC activities, including fundraising, reporting, and distribution.

      • Lead the Dream It Do It, manufacturing education program

      • Lead GNDC’s Manufacturing Membership efforts including the planning of Manufacturing Day

      • Lead the role out of the Marketplace Program

      • Develop and manage other programs as needed

     

    • OTHER

      • Lead or assist in set-up and preparation for special events, meetings, and presentations

      • Manage assigned GNDC Ad Hoc committee activities and events

      • Assist with the planning of an annual events calendar

      • Assist with member recruitment and retention efforts as directed

      • Meet established deadlines for timely completion of projects and assigned tasks.

      • Other duties as assigned.

     

    DESIRABLE SKILLS and ABILITIES:

    • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public relations or a related field with master’s degree preferred.
    • Proven and demonstrated experience developing and successfully advancing policy initiatives.
    • Experience working with internal staff and external lobbyists.
    • Must have extensive knowledge of politics and the legislative process at the state and local level.
    • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent analytical skills.
    • Must have the ability to work independently.
    • Must be willing to travel.
    • Must possess Microsoft office application (experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Adobe). 
    • Ability to multitask

     

     

    NORMAL WORK REQUIREMENTS:

     

    • Generally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday (though occasionally evening meetings and overnight travel will occur)
    • At times longer hours may be necessary to meet member and project needs
    • Reliable transportation for use in job
    • Valid driver’s license is mandatory
    • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
    • Ability to travel in state (4-6 days per month on average)

  • POSITION TITLE:  DIRECTOR OF Membership Services

     

    REPORTS TO:       PRESIDENT AND CEO

     

    GENERAL SCOPE OF DUTIES:

     

    The Greater North Dakota Chamber (GNDC) is the largest business association in the state and works to make North Dakota’s business climate the best in the nation. The Director of Membership Services will play a vital role in GNDC’s success by directing the establishment, operation, and continuation of membership retention and recruitment efforts and related services. The Director of Membership Services will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals to carry out the vision, mission, core values of the GNDC.

     

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT and RETENTION
      • Establish processes, procedures, and strategies for the recruitment of new members and retention of current members
      • Direct the development of recruitment and retention publications in cooperation with marketing and communication staff, which promote the value of membership and the role GNDC plays in creating and maintain a positive business climate
      • Manage GNDC’s membership database to ensure current contact information
      • Promote member engagement opportunities
      • Serve as the lead contact for door-to-door and phone membership sales calls
      • Serve as the primary contact for past due dues collection
      • Assist with assembling GNDC publications

     

    • MEMBER SERVICES
      • Assist with the planning of an annual events calendar
      • Coordinate the logistics of membership related events and functions
      • Assist with the promotion of GNDC events and functions
      • Assist in legislative efforts as directed by the President & CEO
      • Help develop strategies to engage different member segments on GNDC issues
      • Serve as the conduit between legislative/policy efforts and marketing efforts
      • Maintain close member communication on changing laws and regulations

     

    • OTHER DUTIES
      • Coordinate the development and implementation of an annual sponsorship and advertising program
      • Special projects as assigned

    DESIRABLE SKILLS and ABILITIES:

    • Sales/Marketing abilities
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Must possess Microsoft office application (experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Adobe). 
    • Knowledge of business issues and interest in public policy
    • Capable of effectively coordinating multiple communication, promotional and educational activities
    • Self-starter and working on your own initiative
    • Ability to multitask
