Policy Summit Preview: The Business Community Gets the Last Word

    EVENT LINK

Policy conversations matter most when they connect back to the businesses navigating their real-world impacts.

Policy Summit panels are designed to bring multiple perspectives to the table on complex issues affecting North Dakota. But after hearing from policymakers, subject-matter experts, and community leaders, there's another perspective we believe deserves a distinct place in the conversation: business.

Following the panel discussion, a business leader joins the moderator for a brief conversation reflecting on what they just heard. It's an opportunity to connect policy discussions back to the realities of operating, investing, and growing a business in North Dakota—and to give the business community the last word.

    This year's Business Responses include:

    • PANEL: Local Ordinances in a Statewide Economy: Finding the Balance
    • Jonas van Stappen, Executive Director of Development, NextEra Energy Resources
Jonas oversees utility-scale generation, storage, data center, and capacity projects across North Dakota and the region. He will bring the perspective of a business making significant infrastructure investments while working directly with communities, local governments, and other stakeholders.

    • PANEL: Housing and Workforce: Building for Growth
    • Kayla Kallander, Mortgage Loan Officer, First International Bank & Trust
Kayla works directly with homebuyers navigating today's housing market and was recently recognized as North Dakota's #1 producing mortgage lender. She will bring a firsthand perspective on affordability, financing, and the housing realities facing workers and communities.
