    Policy Outlook: Workforce Readiness


    These concise 45-60 minute virtual meetings unite subject matter experts, government officials, and businesses to discuss critical topics like business climate, taxes, workforce recruitment, and infrastructure. These sessions will cultivate conversations that shape the future of North Dakota's workforce.

    • Director Wayde Sick - ND Department of Career and Technical Education
    • Jessica DeVaal - ND Department of Career and Technical Education
    DISCUSSION FOCUS:
    The discussion will provide an overview of the new AP Business Principles and Personal Finance course, including the strategy for statewide deployment and the role of Work-Based Learning Coordinators in connecting education to industry needs.

    Speakers will examine workforce readiness strategies through a SWOT analysis, highlighting opportunities, challenges, and policy considerations shaping North Dakota’s talent pipeline.

    The session will conclude with an interactive, member-driven dialogue and Q&A.

    PRESENTER BIO:

    WAYDE SICK - has been involved in education and workforce development for over twenty years. His first role with the State of North Dakota was with the Workforce Division for the ND Department of Commerce, starting in that capacity in October 2012. In May of 2018, he was named the State Director for the Department of Career and Technical Education. Prior to serving for the State, Wayde was employed with the Burdick Job Corps Center in Minot from 2003-2011 where he served as an academic instructor, CTE Manager, and the Deputy Center Director. Wayde has a bachelor’s degree in social science education and a master’s in management, both from Minot State University.


    SERIES CONTEXT:
    This event is part of GNDC’s Policy Development Process as we prepare for the 2027 Legislative Session. Input from these discussions will help guide GNDC’s Member Councils and overall policy positions.
